Welcome to ThailandGenius.com
Land of Smiles, Amazing Thailand are two of the most popular names for one
of the most interesting countries in the Asian continent.
Bordered by Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia and Malaysia, the Kingdom of Thailand
is home to 64 Million people of 75% Thai descent with minority groups of
Chinese, Malay and other nationalities.
From the busy and exciting city of Grung Thep (Bangkok) to the beautiful
flowers and mountains of the Northern provinces, we will be exploring
travelling in Thailand, Thai culture, Thai food and the social side of Thailand
with its many festivals, celebrations and music.
Thailand has just about everything for everyone. Idyllic beaches in the south
provide a haven for those wanting that lazy beach holiday whilst the north
provides an opportunity to trek on foot or just drive and enjoy the beautiful
scenery with a visit to mountain tribes or the numerous temples found all
over the Kingdom.
A few ideas on where to go as well as some useful articles are within our
Travel section.
Thai food is very aromatic with its mix of herbs, spices and red or green
chillies.
In our Thai food section, we will look at ingredients and how to prepare them.
Cooking Thai food is very easy but there are a few essentials to know when
cooking.
So whether your favourite is a Thai Green Curry or Chicken in Oyster Sauce
with Thai Herbs, there are some tips and recipes too in Thai Food.
If you would like to learn a few Thai phrases then you will find some in our
Travel section. Should you wish to learn Thai proper (it is a very beautiful
language), then our Thai language section provides an introduction to
grammar and details of both flashcard programmes and more advanced
structured learning online courses.
Thailand is a Kingdom with a monarchy and has never been colonised. It has
a very interesting history and we look at that too.
The Thai culture is very evident in everyday life from a greeting with a ‘wai’
(bowing whilst putting the palms of the hand together) to regular visits to the
temple, Thailand being over 90% Buddhist.
Buddhism, founded in India, came to Thailand over 200 years ago and is an
important part of Thai culture. We will provide a little bit of an insight to the
culture, what a massage really can do for one’s inner self and the importance
of the Thai family.
In our Day to Day page, we list some everyday things that you will see and
provide some useful tips.
Thais are extremely sociable and this is reflected in their festivals and music.
Thais love to celebrate. Western Christmas and New Year are both celebrated
along with the Thai New Year (Songkran) and Chinese New Year.
Their own celebrations originate from a strong cultural background, from the
Songkran water drenching to the beautiful floats in the romantic festival of
Loy Krathong.
On the sport front, golf has become a very popular sport and Thailand hosts
some of the most beautiful courses in the world with green fees very
reasonable.
