Thai Language Flashcards
Flashcards or flipcards are a great way to learn Thai words and store a mental
vocabulary quickly.
They are simple, easy to use and very effective.
Just a point here worth discussing which will help in understanding
pronunciation in addition to the use of tones as detailed in the previous
introduction page.
Thais do not extend the consonant at the end of a word. The mouth forms the
letter only and the sound is not extended as in English.
Listen to the pronunciation in the flashcards and you will get the idea.
Thai Byki is a very good product to get you started. With over 2000 cards
covering many day to day words and phrases, it is very good value and one I
have used successfully.
Based on a method of Preview, Recognise it, Produce it, you can save your
progress too.
Additional features are pod audio for MP3 players and a forum for members.
Spoken by Thai native speakers, there is a slow sound feature to help when
learning new words, track and maintain learned items, print cards and create
your own lists too.
Grammar, although important, is not as useful initially as learning vocabulary.
Byki helps in establishing a good a good vocabulary as a basis for ongoing
learning.
Learning through flashcards will give a large reservoir of words, stock phrases
and everyday common expressions.
Availailable in download versions for Mac and Windows operating systems, it
is available in a hybrid CD and at less than 70USD, it is thoroughly
recommended. There is also a free version to try it first. Go to Byki here.
There are other methods of learning Thai language. Flashcards are a great
start and online learning is covered in our next page.
